Internet restored at Sacramento airport after outage caused delays and cancellations
Flights at the Sacramento International Airport saw major delays Sunday morning due to an AT&T internet outage.
Sacramento County airport spokeswoman Samantha Mott said passengers and baggage were being checked in manually and all airlines experienced delays, with Southwest Airlines being the worst hit.
The airport’s official Twitter account announced that connection was restored just after 9 p.m. Sunday, with airlines working with their IT departments to get things back to normal.
The outage began Saturday night, when a traffic accident damaged fiber optic lines, disrupting the internet used by the airport to scan tickets and automate check-ins, Mott said.
Eleven flights were affected Saturday, but eventually got out, Mott said. At least five flights were canceled Sunday due to the delays.
Shelby Brown, a traveler who was stuck in the airport on Sunday, described the situation as “an absolute nightmare.” She said she waited for more than three hours just to check her bags.
The announcement that service had been restored came about three hours after airport officials advised travelers “to call their airline carrier for information on possible delays or cancellations.”
