Update: Southbound I-5 reopens near Elk Grove after morning rollover crash, Caltrans says

Traffic was badly congested Tuesday morning on southbound Interstate 5 following a crash near Elk Grove, authorities say.

Caltrans in a tweet said “major delays” were expected as traffic was reduced to one lane just south of Elk Grove. All lanes were back open by about 8:30 a.m.

The collision was reported just before 5:30 a.m. near the Hood Franklin Road offramp and involved two vehicles, according to the California Highway Patrol incident log.

A white sedan overturned and ended up on its roof, and the crash littered the freeway with debris, according to the CHP.

All lanes were blocked until about 6:20 a.m., when the fast lane reopened.

At least one ambulance was dispatched, according to the CHP, but additional information on the extent of injuries was not known.
