For 49ers fans going to Sunday’s NFC championship, here’s how to skip freeway traffic
Things didn’t work out so well last week for several hundred 49ers fans traveling from Sacramento. The train they took to Levi’s Stadium ran into a glitch and didn’t get them to Santa Clara on time.
As a result, those fans missed the early part of the 49ers’ 27-10 victory over the Minnesota Vikings.
Capitol Corridor train officials promise a better experience and on-time arrivals for Sunday’s NFC championship against the Green Bay Packers. The winner heads to Super Bowl LIV in Miami.
Train officials have scheduled an additional train to spread out the expected heavy ridership across more trains
Sunday morning and early afternoon. Tickets are half price as part of a winter weekends fare special.
The trains carried some 800 fans from the Sacramento area last Saturday, the most since Super Bowl 50 was held at the stadium in 2016.
Game time on Sunday is 3:40 p.m. The first trains will depart from Sacramento starting early morning. The added train will leave Sacramento at 11:50 a.m. and arrive at 2:28 p.m.
Rob Padgette, Capitol Corridor managing director, said trouble occurred last week when officials put together an extra-long 11-car train to carry the bulk of game-goers from the Sacramento region. Trains more typically run with three to six cars. Padgette said the two locomotives used for the longer train had trouble communicating with each other.
“We do not intend to run any train sets this weekend with a similar setup, so we do not anticipate any issues,” he said. “We are committed to providing high quality service to our customers and want to ensure that Capitol Corridor service is an easy option for those headed to the game.”
