The national average pump price for a gallon of regular gas dipped another 3 cents in one week to $3.30, according to the American Automobile Association.

Gasoline demand surged last week because of increased pre-holiday consumer confidence. But fears of the economic impact of the COVID-19 omicron variant pushed prices down again last week.

Since news broke that the COVID-19 omicron variant was detected in California and across the U.S., the national average has fluctuated.

Now it’s about 11 cents less than one month ago, but still $1.09 more than a year ago according to an AAA news release.

California’s regular gasoline price average has not moved since breaking the record Nov. 27 — one day after omicron was detected — and four days before the variant was confirmed in California

As of Monday, the current average price in the state is $4.66, less than a 1-cent drop from about a week ago and closer to where it sat one month ago.

But it’s $1.46 more than 2020, which saw record low prices.

In Sacramento, the regular gas price hasn’t been more than Nov. 29 record average of $4.72. As of Monday, the average regular price is $4.67, less than a penny down from last month’s average but $1.47 more than it was one year ago.
