See on-time departure rates for the major airlines that fly from Sacramento International

Passenger traffic out of Sacramento International Airport is steadily recovering from the pandemic.

The number of passengers who flew out of SMF in January was twice what it was in January 2021, according to figures released by the Sacramento County Department of Airports.

The five airlines with the most domestic traffic – Southwest, American, United, Delta and Alaska – all saw significant increases.

The number of passengers who boarded a Southwest flight at SMF was up 121% since last year. Southwest is by far the busiest carrier out of Sacramento, with nearly 180,000 passengers boarding flights in January.

So how do Sacramento’s “big five” carriers stack up when it comes to on-time departures? Based on data from the Bureau of Transportation Statistics, the performance seems somewhat seasonable, with lower on-time rates in the summer.

The graphic below shows the month-by-month departure performance for the five major airlines for most of 2021.
