AAA: Latest price spikes make California the nation’s most expensive gas market

Surging gas prices over the past week firmly established California as the most expensive retail gasoline market in the nation, according to AAA’s monthly gas price survey, released Tuesday.

Statewide, the average price of unleaded regular was $3.80 a gallon, up 21 cents from $3.59 in the June 9 survey.

In Northern California and Sacramento, however, AAA said that more than three weeks of declining prices over the past month offset price gains seen in the past week. The average prices of $3.46 and $3.36 a gallon in Northern California and Sacramento, respectively, were unchanged from last month, AAA said.

The least expensive gas in Northern California was in Marysville, where the average for unleaded regular was $3.18 a gallon, up 4 cents from last month.
