I Street Bridge closing for a 10-day repair. Here’s how to get around it

The I Street Bridge connecting Sacramento and West Sacramento will close 10 days for repairs beginning Monday, Sacramento officials said Tuesday.

Union Pacific Railroad, which owns and operates the span, will repair exterior siding of a building on the bridge, starting 6 a.m., Oct. 6. Motorists, cyclists and pedestrians will need to take alternate routes during the 10-day project. The project is scheduled to end by 6 a.m. Oct. 16, the city said in a news release.

A number of detours are available to westbound traffic from Sacramento and eastbound traffic from West Sacramento.

Westbound traffic

  • From southbound Jibboom Street: Left on I Street, then right on Third Street and right on Capitol Mall.
  • From westbound I Street (committed to bridge approach): Right on Jibboom Street, then right on Railyards Boulevard. Right on Fifth Street, then right on I Street. Left on Third Street then right on Capitol Mall.
  • From westbound I Street: Left on Third Street, then right on Capitol Mall.

Eastbound traffic

  • From northbound Third Street: Left on B Street, then left on Fourth Street. Left on C Street, then right on Third Street, and left on Tower Bridge Gateway.
  • From eastbound C Street: Right on Third Street, then left on Tower Bridge Gateway.
  • From southbound Third Street: Left on Tower Bridge Gateway.
