I-80 lane and ramp closures expected in Placer and Nevada counties in coming days

Road work

Interstate 80 travelers in Placer and Nevada counties could encounter construction this week involving lane and ramp closures in both directions.

Five projects could impact eastbound travelers. The Blue Canyon pavement rehabilitation project will spark lane and ramp closures between 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. Sunday through Thursday from Applegate to Canyon Way. Work will pick up again between 7 a.m. and noon Friday, according to Caltrans.

Blue Canyon pavement rehabilitation project work is also expected to cause lane closures from 8 p.m. Sunday to 6 a.m. Monday between the Whitmore maintenance yard and Nyack.

The Alta pavement improvement Project will spark lane and ramp closures between Colfax and Monte Vista from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. Monday through Wednesday. The project is expected to require closures near Gold Run from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday, with work also expected 7 a.m. to noon Friday.

Crews will also work on the Monte Vista pavement rehabilitation project, bringing lane closures between Monte Vista and Drum Forebay, according to CalTrans. Lane closures are expected between 6 a.m. Monday and 10 a.m. Friday. The Crystal Springs and Drum Forebay on- and off-ramps are closed until further notice.

Emergency culvert repairs are slated to start 7 a.m. Monday at Donner Lake Vista Point. It’s expected to reopen at the end of the month, according to a news release. Repairs are also expected between Vista Point and the Donner Lake interchange with lane closures scheduled between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday through Thursday.

Another project will cause intermittent traffic breaks near Boca during the day Tuesday through Thursday, causing motorists to undergo delays of up to 30 minutes.

Westbound I-80 lane and ramp closures

Westbound I-80 traffic will also be affected by construction.

Emergency culvert repairs will lead to lane closures between the Sierra-Nevada county line — where traffic breaks could also occur — and Farad between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday through Thursday, according to a release. Lane closures could also occur between Floriston and Hinton Rad during the same time frame.

Lane closures already in place near Kingvale for the Drum Forebay drainage restoration project, according to the release, which is scheduled to end at 7 p.m. June 19. The project will likely bring lane closures near Rainbow Road from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Thursday.

The off-ramp at Yuba Gap is closed until further notice because a crossover is in place along westbound I-80. Motorist are detoured westbound to Emigrant Gap and return eastbound on I-80 to Yuba Gap.

The Monte Vista pavement rehabilitation project could cause westbound lane closures between Drum Forebay and Monte Vista between 3 p.m. and 9 a.m. during the work week.

Alta pavement improvement project construction could bring lane and ramp closures between Alta and Gold Run through the work week.

Meanwhile, the Blue Canyon pavement rehabilitation project could bring lane and ramp closures Sunday night into Monday and Monday night into Tuesday.
