’Tis the season for free parking in Sacramento

In an early gift to Sacramento shoppers, the city will offer free parking at 4,000 metered spots throughout the downtown, midtown and Old Sacramento areas on weeknights and weekends from Thanksgiving through Christmas – part of a citywide effort to encourage more shoppers to spend their holiday cash here.

The free zone, which only applies to metered on-street parking spaces, will extend from I to L streets and from Front to 29th Street, according to a statement from the city.

People can park for free with no time limitations on Saturdays and Sundays from Nov. 27 through Dec. 25 and on weekdays after 4:30 p.m. Metered parking enforcement will also be suspended on Thanksgiving and Christmas day, two of six recognized holidays during which parking is suspended annually.
