Stretches of I-80 closed in Sierra after crashes involving 29 vehicles
Several stretches of Interstate 80 in the Sierra Nevada were closed in both directions Sunday afternoon due to crashes involving 29 vehicles blamed on icy road conditions, Caltrans officials said.
No injuries were reported. The westbound lane of the highway reopened Sunday evening, while eastbound traffic was still closed at the town of Hirschdale near Truckee, according to Caltrans.
Caltrans reported the accidents involved four big rigs and 25 passenger vehicles. Parts of the Sierra experienced up to 10 inches of snowfall Saturday, according to the National Weather Service.
