Overturned big rig ties up I-80 traffic near Rocklin

A tractor-trailer overturned on Interstate 80 just east of Highway 65 near Rocklin Sunday evening, closing traffic to all but one lane as crews worked to clear the freeway.

No injuries were reported in the 5:57 p.m. wreck on eastbound Interstate 80, reportedly caused when the driver of a Ford Fusion sedan merged from Highway 65 onto I-80 and into the path of the tractor-trailer, said California Highway Patrol Officer Mike Terry. The driver of the big rig lost control of the vehicle, laden with sport drink, and the semi tipped onto its side. The Ford’s driver was not hurt and pulled to the right shoulder

The truck’s load was contained, Terry said, but the wreck snarled eastbound traffic into the night. Caltrans crews were en route to clean up the debris around 8 p.m.

CHP officers continue to investigate the incident.
