Nighttime roadwork planned on I-5 near airport
Nighttime closures are planned Friday and Monday as the California Department of Transportation continues work on northbound Interstate 5 at Sacramento International Airport to lengthen the auxiliary lane and exit ramp.
To accommodate construction, lane restrictions will be in effect beginning at Power Line Road on northbound I-5 approaching the airport from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m., according to a Caltrans news release. Crews plan to close the northbound I-5 exit to the airport from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. on Friday and Monday, requiring motorists to follow a 6-mile detour during the overnight work.
Motorists will continue northbound past the airport, over the Sacramento River and take Exit No. 531. Then they will take Old River Road under the freeway to County Road 118, merging onto southbound I-5. They will continue south on I-5 to Exit No. 528 to the airport.
Caltrans advises motorists trying o make their flights to add 30 to 35 minutes to their travel time and to expect delays.
Caltrans will issue construction updates on Twitter @CaltransDist3 and on Facebook at CaltransDistrict3. For real-time traffic, click on Caltrans QuickMap, http://quickmap.dot.ca.gov/.
