Roundabout to debut at busy Elk Grove intersection

A new roundabout intersection at Sheldon and Waterman roads will open Monday.

After a monthlong closure, the new roundabout replaces a four-way stop and is expected to reduce travel delays and improve safety, officials say.

Jeff Werner, senior civil engineer for Elk Grove’s Public Works Department, said the intersection is a main commute route.

“It was a four-way stop and it’s a major commute route for school and work, so it experienced its share of delay,” Warner said.

The full project is expected to be completed in November, with native landscaping, antique farm equipment and a windmill. An opening celebration will be held this fall.
