Jackpot in Sacramento: How much grand prize-winning Powerball lottery ticket is worth

Jackpot!

A 7-Eleven store in Sacramento’s Valley Hi neighborhood sold a grand prize-winning ticket matching all six numbers drawn in Wednesday’s Powerball lottery, Powerball and the California Lottery announced.

That $2 ticket is now worth more than $316 million.

The Powerball jackpot had run up to $632.6 million, going 40 drawings since its last big win in October. A second winning ticket was sold in Green Bay, Wisconsin, so the two winning tickets each get half (before taxes).

Sacramento’s nine-figure winner was sold by the 7-Eleven at 6591 Wyndham Drive, which will get $1 million for selling it, the California Lottery said.

The winning numbers: 6-14-25-33-46 and the Powerball was 17.

“Each ticket is worth an annuitized $316.3 million or $225.1 million cash,” Powerball wrote in a news release. “Both prize options are prior to taxes.”

California does not tax lottery winnings, so the ticketholder is only on the hook for federal taxes. That means the ticket in Sacramento is worth a little over $141 million, if taken in the lump sum.

The nearly $633 million grand prize is the seventh-largest Powerball jackpot in history.

Wednesday’s marks the second-most valuable Powerball ticket ever sold in California, behind the $699.8 million ticket bought in October at a Morro Bay grocery store, which was also the most recent Powerball jackpot hit. The California Lottery identified that winner as Scott Godfrey, who took home a lump sum of $496 million.

It is also the third-biggest win of any lottery ticket sold in California, trailing only Godfrey’s Powerball win and a December 2013 Mega Millions jackpot that split $636 million between a ticket purchased in San Jose and another in Georgia, according to lottery officials.

The winner from Wednesday’s drawing won’t be known until the very lucky ticket-holder files a claim.

A grand prize-winner being sold in California will also net the state’s public school system $63 million, the Lottery said in a Twitter thread.

Less than two weeks ago on Christmas, an Auburn AM-PM mini-mart store sold a Powerball ticket that matched five of six numbers, worth $554,000.

The Powerball lottery is drawn every Monday, Wednesday and Saturday. After this week’s win, the jackpot has reset to $20 million.
