Hubble telescope finds a smiley face in space

Hubble Space Telescope recently captured an image in space that looks like the popular smiley face emoticon.

The ring surrounding the face is known as an Einstein Ring. This name is derived from the fact that Einstein’s Theory of Relativity serves to explain this type of naturally occurring imagery in space.

The two eyes are both galaxies, and the smile resulted from strong gravitational lensing. The natural phenomenon of gravitational lensing occurs when the gravitational pull between two galaxy clusters is so strong it distorts time and space.
