Police salute K9 at emotional end of watch ceremony
An emotional photo of a Middletown, Conn., police officer carrying his K9 partner to his final veterinary visit as fellow officers salute has gone viral.
Hunter, a Middletown Police Department K9, had been diagnosed with aggressive liver cancer after falling ill a few days earlier. Officer Michael D’Aresta carried his partner in his arms to a veterinary office for euthanization Friday evening as fellow officers turned out to salute them.

D’Aresta and Hunter had been partners on the Middletown police force since 2007. The police department’s Facebook post has been shared more than 1,000 times and has 4,500 likes.
