Throngs of ‘Game of Thrones’ fans petition for ‘competent writers’ to redo season 8

Disgruntled “Game of Thrones” fans say in an online petition that HBO owes them a do-over on the epic fantasy show’s final season — but this time with “competent writers.

More than 590,000 people have already signed a petition seeking a remake of the show’s eighth season. The final episode airs Sunday night.

“This series deserves a final season that makes sense,” the petition reads, arguing that showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss are “woefully incompetent” writers.

The blockbuster show, which chronicles the struggle for rulership of the fictional land of Westeros between the Starks, Lannisters, Targaryens and other houses, has drawn criticism from some quarters for its eighth and final season, which has six episodes, The Independent reports.

Some have complained the episodes, several of which have been as long as feature films, still seem rushed, while others questioned the character choices of fan favorites and villains alike.

The most recent episode, “The Bells,” sparked an online backlash as one of the main characters seemed to go mad, while others defended it as a long-established possibility in the show.

The show was based on a best-selling, but still-unfinished, series of books by George R.R. Martin, although it outpaced material from the published books several seasons ago.
