Can you get alcohol delivered in Texas? Soon – just in time for your holiday parties

If you’re hosting a party in Texas and the booze is running low, you soon won’t have to worry about driving to the liquor store.

Alcohol delivery will be available shortly — just in time for the holiday season, officials say.

The Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission is accepting applications from companies that want to bring beer, wine and liquor to customers’ front doors, according to a Thursday news release. Third-party companies such as Favor or Instacart will pick up alcohol from bars, restaurants and liquor stores.

“For years, Texans across the state have relied on third-party services to deliver everything from clothing to vehicles,” TABC Executive Director Bentley Nettles said, according to the news release. “Now, at long last, alcohol can be delivered as well.”

The first permits will be issued by the third week of December, officials said.

Alcohol delivery with orders of food is available in Texas, meaning some bars and restaurants can already send booze to customers.

Gov. Greg Abbott signed legislation creating the new permit into law in May. Since that time, the TABC has been working with the alcohol industry to create rules.
