Mom dying from heart condition collapses on and smothers baby to death, AZ cops say

An Arizona woman and her 4-month-old son died tragically after she fell onto him while suffering a heart condition, Tempe police said.

Det. Greg Bacon, Tempe Police Department spokesperson, told AZCentral that Larinique Meadows, 38, searched for “symptoms of chest pain” before she collapsed on top of Denari Meadows, her infant son.

“It’s a very, very tragic incident in which we believe that she had some sort of heart condition, heart episode and then passed away and fell on top of Denari,” Bacon told AZCentral.

The father told police that he discovered both of the bodies after he woke up from a work shift, 3TV/CBS 5 reported.

He said that Larinique was on top of Meadows and police think that the baby suffocated, according to the TV station.

Police said that they responded to the call on Feb. 1, according to 3TV/CBS5.

Authorities also don’t believe foul play is involved, according to KPHO/KTVK/CNN.

Now, mourners are visiting a memorial outside of the family’s home to leave behind stuffed animals and other items as a show of support, the TV station reported.

“This looks like it’s a health-related issue. Father seems to be very hard-working, trying to provide for his family, works nights, ran some errands that morning for the family, specifically for the baby,” Bacon told KPHO/KTVK/CNN. “So, it’s just a very tragic situation, and we mourn for them.”
