Sex therapist once engaged to Drew Carey is killed in Hollywood, police say
A woman who was engaged to “The Price is Right” host Drew Carey two years ago died Saturday after being found unconscious below the third-floor balcony of her Hollywood Hills home, police say.
Dr. Amie Harwick’s ex-boyfriend, 41-year-old Gareth Pursehouse, has been arrested in connection with her death, KABC-TV reported.
Los Angeles police responded to the Mounds Street area around 1:15 a.m. Saturday following reports of a woman screaming, according to KTLA-TV. Officers were told by a roommate that Harwick was being assaulted, KCBS reported.
Harwick, 38, was found below the balcony with significant injuries and she was later pronounced dead at a nearby hospital, according to KCBS. Her injures were “consistent with a fall,” USA Today reported.
Police found evidence of a forced entry into Harwick’s home and evidence of a struggle, according to KABC. Surveillance footage led police to Pursehouse, who is currently being held in the Los Angeles jail on $2 million bail, KABC reported.
Jail records show Pursehouse was arrested around 4:30 p.m. Saturday. He is being held in the jail on $2 million bond for suspicion of murder, according to jail records.
Harwick recently took out a restraining order against Pursehouse after “recently expressing fear” about him, but that order had expired, police said, according to KTLA.
According to her practice’s website, Harwick was a licensed marriage and family therapist who specialized in psychotherapy and sex therapy.
She was the author of the 2014 book “The New Sex Bible For Women” and announced her engagement with Carey in February 2018, ET Online reported. They ended their engagement less than a year later, according to US Weekly.
Carey has not commented publicly on Harwick’s death.
