Accused Grindr cannibal passes out in jail after not eating enough, Michigan cops say

A man accused of cannibalizing his Grindr date in Michigan passed out in jail on Tuesday because he hadn’t been eating, police say.

Mark Latunski, 50, was taken to a local hospital after he was found unresponsive in his jail cell just after 5 p.m., Michigan Live reported.

Latunski was breathing normally when a trooper responded to his cell, but officials had to use smelling salts to wake him up, according to WJRT.

Michigan State Police Special First Lt. David Kaiser said Latunski hadn’t been eating.

“It appears he has not been eating since he was lodged,” Kaiser told the Detroit Free Press, adding that his food consumption had been down since Friday.

Latunski was accompanied by a trooper when he was taken by ambulance to an area hospital, WJRT reported. He’s since returned to jail.

On Dec. 28, police found the body of hairstylist Kevin Bacon, 25, in Latunski’s home, McClatchy News previously reported. Bacon went missing after a Christmas Eve date with Latunski, who he’d met on the dating app Grindr.

Police said they found Bacon hanging naked from the rafters by his ankles in Latunski’s house. Latunski confessed to killing Bacon by stabbing him in the back then slicing his throat, also telling police he’d cut off Bacon’s testicles with a knife before eating them, according to the report.

On Jan. 8, Latunski’s attorney submitted an insanity defense, Michigan Live reported. A competency evaluation can take between 60 and 90 days, and court proceedings are on hold until the evaluation is complete.
