This man’s attempt to break into a gun shop goes painfully awry, Indiana video shows
A wannabe burglar underestimated the strength of the windows at a gun shop as he desperately tried to break into the store, video shows.
Femme Fatale Guns & Sporting Inc. in South Bend, Indiana, posted surveillance videos of the attempted burglar’s efforts to bust through the shop’s glass.
The video shows a man throw an object, which ricocheted, at the window. Afterward, he leans in close to inspect the damage and appears to realize it didn’t breakthe glass.
Then the man body slams himself against the window and falls to the ground. That didn’t work either.
Finally, in a last-ditch effort, the man grabs hold of a railing and kicks the window with both feet, which sent him toppling onto the sidewalk.
Rebecca Bartol, who owns the store, told McClatchy News the glass is blast-resistant, and it would take machinery to break through it.
“It was a shock that he tried to throw his body through it — that’s not an everyday occurrence,” Bartol said. “He definitely bounced off.”
Here’s another video from inside the store showing the same futile attempts before the man gives up and walks away.
South Bend police went to the gun shop on Main Street within minutes of the alarm going off shortly after 11 p.m. Wednesday, spokeswoman Christine Karsten told McClatchy.
In fact, the gun shop is within eyesight of the police department, and officers heard the alarm, Bartol said.
The officers saw a man leaving the area and detained him on suspicion of criminal mischief and attempted burglary, police said.
The 27-year-old was awaiting to be formally charged on Thursday, police said. He was in police custody at the St. Joseph County jail.
Bartol hopes this video is a warning for others thinking about breaking into her store.
“Hopefully this puts a little lesson out there,” she said. “We’ll see.”
