See a map of states with reported cases of coronavirus

The first case of the novel coronavirus in the United States was reported Jan. 20, and the first domestic death was announced Feb. 29. On March 11, the World Health Organization classified the virus as a pandemic, which it defines as “the worldwide spread of a new disease.”

To help readers track the spread of the virus across the United States, we created this state-by-state map listing reported positive cases and confirmed deaths.

The map is updated using data from Johns Hopkins University’s Center for Systems Science and Engineering at the Whiting School of Engineering.

COVID-19 is the official name of the disease caused by the new coronavirus, as explained thoroughly by Dictionary.com.
