Quarterback Joe Burrow, who led LSU to a 15-0 record and the 2019 national championship, was selected by the Cincinnati Bengals with the No. 1 pick in the 2020 NFL Draft on Thursday night.

The Heisman Trophy winner, who set an NCAA record with 60 touchdown passes in 15 starts during his senior season, returns home to his native Ohio and will lead a Bengals franchise that hasn’t won a playoff game since 1990.

Here are five things to know about Burrow:

1. In addition to winning the Heisman Trophy, Burrow won the Maxwell, Walter Camp Player of the Year, Johnny Unitas Golden Arm, and Davey O’Brien awards, as was a unanimous selection for the Associated Press All-American team and SEC Offensive Player of the Year, according to NFL.com.

2. Burrow signed with Ohio State out of high school and played for the Buckeyes from 2015-17 before transferring to LSU, where he went 25-3 during his two seasons with the Tigers and led the program to its fourth national title during his standout senior campaign. LSU beat Clemson 42-25 in the national championship game.

3. Burrow capped his first season at LSU by leading the Tigers to a 40-32 win over UCF in the PlayStation Fiesta Bowl, snapping the Knights’ 25-game winning streak. Burrow capped his second season with LSU by leading the Tigers past Clemson in the national title game, snapping the rival Tigers’ 29-game winning streak.

4. Burrow’s dad, Jim Burrow, played as a defensive back for the Green Bay Packers for one season before going to the Canadian Football League for three seasons, according to the Canadian Press.

5. According to Hall of Fame quarterback Brett Favre, who led the Green Bay Packers to victory in Super Bowl XXXI, “Joe Burrow is as close to a ‘can’t miss’ as you can possibly get based on his performance,” he told CBS Sports HQ.
