Mountain lion finds shady spot for a nap — under an SUV in Colorado garage, photos show

Residents in a Colorado subdivision had an unwelcome visitor Monday when a mountain lion took up residency in an open garage.

The mountain lion was shown in pictures by Colorado Parks and Wildlife underneath a parked SUV. It may not have been the most comfy spot for a nap, but the 4Runner provided the lion some shade.

“For the most part, left alone, most wild animals will leave the area,” the Longmont Police Department said. “Unfortunately, he was not leaving.”

When wildlife officers arrived at the garage, they safely tranquilized the young male lion, according to a Twitter post.

There were numerous mountain lion sightings in the Denver-area city over the weekend and more Monday by residents reporting the lion in neighborhoods, according to the Times-Call.

The city is “not on the normal side for mountain lions,” Jason Clay, a spokesman for Colorado Parks and Wildlife’s Northeast Region, told the Times-Call.

Video posted by the parks service shows the mountain lion released to a remote area in the mountains.

The police department reminded residents “not to approach any wildlife that has found its way into town.”

While mountain lions rarely attack people, Colorado Parks and Wildlife said, “Young lions may key in on easy prey, like pets and small children.”
