Worker falls to death, temporarily halting construction of NFL’s SoFi Stadium in L.A.
Tragedy struck on Friday morning when an iron worker at SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles fell to his death. The accident occurred while the construction worker, unnamed at this time, fell while working on a section of the roof, the Los Angeles Times reported.
A person told the Times that the worker fell from a height of “50 to 60 feet while working on the roof of the southeast corner of the stadium near one of the massive concrete support columns.”
The Inglewood police confirmed the death shortly after, NBC Los Angeles reported.
“This is an extremely sad day. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family, friends and colleagues at this extremely difficult time,” Turner-AECOM Hunt, the site’s general contractor, said in a statement, according to ESPN. “We work extremely hard to prevent days like this and we have halted all construction activity. Counseling services will be made available to all workers on site to support them in the difficult days and weeks ahead.”
SoFi Stadium, the $5 billion future home of the Los Angeles Rams and Los Angeles Chargers, began construction in November 2016, had a mishap in February after a 340-foot crane collapsed at the construction site. No injuries were reported, ABC 7 reported.
