Charlotte’s bowl game is now named after ... mayonnaise? Twitter is amused

No doubt 2020 has been a curious year, but at least the NCAA is trying to spread some good news.

On Thursday, it was announced that Duke’s Mayonnaise is the new title sponsor of the annual regular-season kickoff game and now-former Belk Bowl played in Charlotte, North Carolina, McClatchy News reported.

The Twitter reaction to the new sponsor ranged from hilariously sarcastic to downright horrified.

“The swag packs for the players in the Dukes Mayo Bowl are gonna be LIT,” @Franklinaire tweeted.

“Get ready for the most horrifying scene in sports: the winning coach of the Duke’s Mayo Bowl getting a giant drum of mayonnaise dumped on him,” said @RedditCFB.

“The winner of the Duke’s Mayo Bowl and the winner of the Idaho Potato advance to the Grandma’s Potato Salad Bowl.(shows self out)“ tweeted @ralphDrussoAP.

“You know what must be done. Pass the Idaho Potato Bowl for true supremacy,” said @wackyweko.

And you can’t forget the gifs.

Charlotte Sports Foundation and Duke’s Mayo will continue to put on a regular-season game that will be played at Bank of America Stadium. The Duke’s Mayo Classic will be Wake Forest against Notre Dame on Sept. 26.
