Taco Bell’s website and app crash after the chain offers free Chalupa boxes

The same day Taco Bell offered free Chalupa Cravings Boxes to people who registered as users online or on the app, both platforms crashed.

“Our teams are aware that some users are unable to access our website or app at the moment due to higher than normal traffic,” the company wrote on Twitter Tuesday. “We’re working to get this fixed as soon as possible. Still need help? DM us.”

On Monday, news spread that Taco Bell would give away a $5 Chalupa Cravings Box to customers who registered as a user online or on the app.

The Chalupa Cravings Box includes a Chalupa supreme, 5-layer burrito, crunchy taco, cinnamon twists and a medium drink, according to Taco Bell.

By Tuesday afternoon, both the company’s website and app were down — and people were not happy.

“Trying for over an hour to claim chalupa box click get offer and end up with blank screen ughh,” one Twitter user wrote.

“Taco Bell? More like Taco ‘bout bad planning. Rain check on the Chalupa box?” wrote another.

“Nothing worse then telling a hungry man that he can’t have free food,” wrote a third.

Taco Bell said they’re working on a fix.

“We know our fans have a passion for our craveable food, especially craveable food that makes a Tuesday a little more epic,” Taco Bell said in a statement obtained by Massachusetts Live. “This overwhelming excitement and high traffic is causing some technical difficulties. We’re aware of the issue and are working quickly to ensure those fans impacted get the free $5 Cravings Box we promised.”
