‘We’ve never heard any buzzing.’ Mystery liquid reveals 20,000 bees in PA home

A mysterious liquid was seeping through a Pennsylvania man’s home. When he took a chance and licked it, it clued him in to the fact that he had a major bee problem, video showed.

“We noticed these streaks coming down our wall,” Justin Isabell said in a video posted to Facebook this past week. “We could not figure out what it was. So, with a very careful lick — yup, that’s honey.”

Justin Isabell and his wife Andrea told CNN they have lived in their home for five years, and they haven’t had any major issues. Now, the honey trickling down the wall helped them find out thousands of bees had moved in.

“Foreboding Fact: All of the beekeepers we spoke with stated, ‘I’ve been doing this 5, 10, 20 years and I’ve heard of honey coming through walls but have never actually seen it,’” Justin Isabell said on Facebook. “Well take a picture Clark because we have honey... in our house....”

The couple from Bucks County, Pennsylvania, told WPVI that they first thought the honey was storm damage from a large amount of rain Friday.

“My husband felt this really sticky, syrupy stuff. We were brave and smelled it. He said, ‘This is honey. This is honey pouring down our walls,’” Andrea Isabell told WPVI.

Andrea Isabell told the news outlet they traced the bees to the top of the house.

“We’ve never heard any buzzing or anything,” Andrea Isabell told CNN. “When we saw the stream coming down the wall, we just kind of worked our way up.”

Allan Lattanzi, a general contractor and beekeeper for eight years, estimated the colony has between 20,000 and 30,000 bees, according to CNN. He will extract the bees.

“We know bees are endangered,” Andrea Isabell told CNN. “We want to be able to save the colony and rehome them appropriately and carefully, but the damage done to the house to extract it was concerning.”
