Video shows Walmart customers fighting over social distancing, Colorado woman says
A fight broke out between two women in a checkout line at a Colorado Walmart due to a disagreement over social distancing, a witness said.
The video, taken by Brianna Carroll, shows the two women fighting in what appears to be a self checkout lane at a Colorado Springs Walmart on July 31, according to Storyful, a social media newswire.
One woman appears to hold another woman in a blue shirt by her hair as a Walmart worker tries to separate them.
Someone is heard yelling “get off me you stupid b----” as the woman in a lavender shirt pushes away the woman in the blue shirt, who then disappears off camera, the video shows. The Walmart worker yells after the woman asking, “do you want to go to jail?”
Not long after, the woman in lavender yells “six feet, b----” before exchanging words with the Walmart worker.
Neither the woman in blue nor the woman in lavender appears to be wearing a mask. The retailer began requiring customers to wear face coverings in all stores on July 20.
Carroll told KRDO that the altercation captured on her video was caused by a disagreement over social distancing.
“It originally started with social distancing,” she said, according to the outlet. “The lady in front told the lady behind her to step back and she wasn’t six feet and pushed her cart back and then the lady pushed the other cart back. The first lady started throwing the other lady’s stuff off the conveyor belt.”
When the interaction became physical, Carroll said she felt the need to film it, KKTV reported.
“I mean, if somebody were to come to me, at least I would have some kind of evidence on what happened, at least from my point of view,” Carroll said, according to the outlet.
Laura Barr, 60, was ultimately arrested and faces third-degree assault charges, KTTV reported. It’s not immediately clear which woman in the video was Barr.
Police told KRDO they don’t think social distancing was the “main problem” in the incident, according to the outlet. McClatchy News has reached out to Colorado Springs police for confirmation.
Walmart did not comment when contacted by KKTV, the outlet said.
