Calf leads police on 4-mile chase through yards and sprinklers in Arizona, video shows
An unlikely police chase swept through a Phoenix suburb after a calf sprinted through the town, video shows.
A young cow made a run for it, busting out of its home and creating a traffic hazard, Goodyear Police said Wednesday on Facebook. The calf ran across roads and through yards and sprinklers, video shows.
“Officers chased it for approximately 4 miles before it jumped into the RID Canal located near Van Buren and the 303,” police wrote on Facebook. “Corporal McFadden, a true ‘horse guy’ and farmer himself, grabbed the calf, and was able to hold it (without going swimming himself), preventing the calf from drowning.”
Police held onto the calf until its owners arrived. They helped pull the calf out of the canal, and the animal is doing well, police said.
One witness said on Facebook that she saw the calf before police were there, and she followed the calf with hazard lights on so cars wouldn’t crash into the animal.
“Stayed on the phone until cops were helping,” the commenter said. “We stopped and prayed for everyone’s safety and the cows! We helped as long as we could until we knew it was handled.”
Other people said the cow rescue was impressive and “going above and beyond.”
“That’s a set of skills I’m sure isn’t on his resume,” another commenter said. “But maybe should be.”
