Quick-witted bus driver delivers hijacker to police station, Oregon cops say

An Oregon bus driver got a start Sunday afternoon when his lone passenger brandished a wooden “tire puncher” and demanded to be driven out of town, police say.

But the driver instead delivered the would-be hijacker to a police station, says a news release by the Woodburn Police Department.

After arriving at the station, the driver jumped out and called 911, but the passenger drove off in the bus before officers could respond, police say.

Officers later found the abandoned transit bus and arrested Aurelio Navarrete Ramirez, 32, at a nearby home, the release says.

Police arrested Ramirez on suspicion of robbery, attempted kidnapping, menacing, coercion, unlawful use of a weapon and unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, officers reported.
