Xbox Series X, Series S preorders sold out quickly. See the reaction from gamers
If you weren’t quick on the draw, you likely missed out on preordering an Xbox Series X or Series S.
Preorders for the new Xbox consoles began at 11 a.m. Eastern on Tuesday, but several major retailers sold out in minutes.
Some people said they were unable to preorder the console because the Microsoft website was down at the most inopportune time.
Target and Walmart both appeared to sell out of the preorders on their websites quickly. Walmart may have sold out in as little as 30 seconds and Target may have in a similar timeframe.
IGN, however, reported retailers were going in and out of their stock.
The website DownDetector.com showed issues on websites for Target, Best Buy and Gamestop.
Preorders began around 11:50 a.m. ET on Amazon’s website, IGN reported. Amazon also quickly sold out of Series X, Twitter users said.
Best Buy began its preorders around noon, but those were also sold out in minutes, Tech Radar reported.
Xbox said Tuesday afternoon it was “humbled by the record-breaking demand for Xbox Series X and S.”
“Huge thanks to everyone for the excitement,” Xbox tweeted. “If you weren’t successful today be sure to sign up with retailers for updates, and expect more consoles to be available on November 10.
Issues with preordering gaming consoles are not uncommon. Last week, gamers voiced their frustration after preorders for the Playstation 5 began sooner than expected, McClatchy News reported. The PS5 also sold out quickly at all major retailers.
Some lucky people were able to snag an Xbox preorder and they tweeted their excitement. The new consoles will debut Nov. 10.
The Xbox Series X has a retail price of $499. The Series S, a digital-only console, is priced at $299.
