School bus driver accused of making sexual comments toward 11-year-old, GA cops say
A bus driver for Atlanta Public Schools is accused of making inappropriate sexual comments toward an 11-year-old boy on his bus, district officials say.
Ricky Williams, 57, was arrested on charges of enticing a child for indecent purposes and will remain suspended pending an investigation, Atlanta Public Schools told McClatchy News in a statement. The district’s police department is handling the case.
“The district has procedures in place to remove employees from their worksite once there is evidence of potential wrongdoing affecting student or staff safety,” the statement reads. “The results of the investigation will be submitted to the Fulton County District Attorney’s Office.”
The comments were caught on the bus’ video surveillance system, WSB-TV reported, citing police reports. Officers watched the tape and confirmed that Williams had “attempted to solicit the child by having a conversation about sexual acts,” the TV station reported.
The child’s mother, Christina Mills, said her “heart is broken” for her son, who has special needs, according to WGCL. She said the alleged incident happened two weeks ago when the boy rode the bus to school at North Metro GNETS (Georgia Network for Educational and Therapeutic Support).
“Mr. Williams began to lead a conversation with my son and in the conversation, the comment that came up is ... he said wanted to be the first one to touch him, he wanted to be my son’s first,” Mills told the news station.
McClatchy News reached out to the Atlanta Public Schools Police Department on Friday and is awaiting a response.
