A 69-year-old hiker from Florida is in serious condition after falling off a trail in Hana, Hawaii, on Thursday.

The incident happened at around 11:36 a.m. on Thursday. The hiker reportedly fell 15 feet off a trail at Kaihalulu, or Red Sand Beach, the Maui Fire Department said, according to KHON2.

Firefighters airlifted the hiker to Hana Ballpark, where medical personnel were waiting, Maui News reported. From there, she was taken to Maui Memorial Medical Center for treatment.

She sustained multiple injuries from the fall, KHON2 reported.

The Maui Fire Department urges people to follow certain safety guidelines while hiking, KITV reported.

Some of those tips include bringing enough food and water, bringing a charged cellphone and backup battery, researching trails thoroughly, and not going off the trail.
