Two Phoenix, Arizona, brothers intended to dismember the body of a slain 17-year-old girl after stuffing it in a plastic tote bin, police said.

Two brothers are accused of stuffing a slain 17-year-old girl’s body in a plastic tote bin with plans to dismember and bury it later, Arizona police said.

Daniel Blas Torrealba, 21, and Edwin Humberto Chavez-Blas, 19, were arrested on suspicion of concealment of a body and evidence tampering, The Arizona Republic reported.

Police were called Oct. 5 by the family of the brothers to check on Destiny Munoz, 17, whom they had not seen in 10 days, KNXV reported. She was Blas Torrealba’s girlfriend and mother of their 1-year-old child.

When officers arrived at a home shared by the brothers, they found Munoz’s decaying body wrapped in plastic and duct tape inside a tote bin in a pickup truck, KPNX reported.

Blas Torrealba told officers Munoz shot herself in the face during an argument but he had been afraid to notify police because he’s not allowed to own firearms, Arizona’s Family reported.

He told police the gun went off when he tried to grab it from her, The Arizona Republic reported. But Blas Torrealba also had told relatives that Munoz fell and hit her head.

Medical examiners said she died of a gunshot wound, the publication reported.

Blas Torrealba used her phone to send messages to her family “so they would not worry about her,” police told Arizona’s Family.

Police believe Munoz was slain Sept. 26, KPNX reported. Evidence showed the house had been cleaned and furniture had been removed, police said.

Store security video shows Chavez-Blas buying a 70-gallon storage container, cleaning supplies, deodorizer and duct tape, Arizona’s Family reported.

He also purchased a chainsaw police said was intended to be used to dismember Munoz’s body for burial, KPNX reported. But police found her body before they could carry out the plan.

“To hear that, especially about what they were gonna do with the body, I think that’s awful,” neighbor Tania Peraza told Arizona’s Family.

”Now we are left with a baby without his mom and a father that hurt his mother,” Jazmin Munoz, Destiny’s sister, told KNXV.
