Grand Maryland estate listed for $1.8M has all the makings of a castle. Take a look
A striking and special property has landed on the market in Chevy Chase, Maryland for $1.875 million.
It’s a home that isn’t quite a castle, but has all the makings of one.
In that, it has a castle gatehouse.
“As the story goes, the woman who lived there and had it built was named Daisy Calhoun. During the Depression, she was forced to leave the castle because she was bankrupt, and moved into the gatehouse,” listing agent Alyssa Crilley with Washington Fine Properties told Realtor.com
The inside, however, is extremely regal in its own right.
“The kitchen includes granite counters and wonderful flow to the dining room and living room which all feature high ceilings,” the listing says.
“The living room is accented by an impressive stone fireplace. The living room opens on one side to a covered balcony with garden views and on the other side to a large patio, perfect for entertaining and overlooking the pond below.
Included in the many highlights are a four story turret with circular staircase, library with stone floor and built-ins, a private office, gargoyles and fountains.”
The original castle was torn down in 1957, Realtor said.
“The property itself has stood the test of time, Crilley said to Realtor. “The original bones and feel of the castle still remain.”
