Son arrested in Texas after mom’s body is found in Louisiana field, police say
A Louisiana man wanted on second-degree murder charges in the death of his mother has been captured more than 250 miles away in Texas, authorities say.
Deputies arrested 34-year-old Stephen Myers in Austin County on Nov. 7, days after he’s accused of killing his mom and leaving her body in an open field in Acadia Parish, Louisiana, according to the Acadia Parish Sheriff’s Office.
An “exhaustive search” by Austin County authorities found Myers hiding in brush behind a home, deputies said in a news release. He was booked into the Austin County Jail on second-degree murder charges and will be extradited back to Louisiana, where he faces other outstanding warrants.
Authorities in Acadia Parish said they launched an investigation Nov. 6 after relatives of 59-year-old Pamela Myers called and said they hadn’t seen or heard from her since the evening of Nov. 2. Family members said they last saw Pamela with her son in a field area, according to a news release.
Deputies searched the area and found Pamela Myers dead with “trauma to the facial area.” By this time, authorities said her son had gone to Texas with another relative.
Acadia authorities teamed up with the Austin County Sheriff’s Office to track down Stephen Myers, who’s also facing felony home invasion and child endangerment charges, deputies said.
The incident is still being investigated.
Acadia Parish is about 75 miles west of Baton Rouge.
