68-year-old crossing street in wheelchair is fatally hit by SUV, Tennessee police say

A 68-year-old man has died a week after he was hit while crossing a Tennessee street in a wheelchair, police said.

Hyman Miller was traveling west across Dickerson Pike near Maplewood Trace in Nashville on Tuesday, Nov. 2, when he was hit by a 2019 Kia Sportage, according to a news release from the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department.

“The preliminary investigation shows Miller was outside of a crosswalk when he was attempting to travel westbound across Dickerson Pike,” police said. “Miller also showed signs of intoxication at the scene.”

On Tuesday, Nov. 9, Miller died from his injuries at Vanderbilt University Medical Center, police said.

The driver of the Kia that hit Miller was not hurt in the crash, according to police.
