Meows from underground lead rescuers to kitten stuck in drain for a week in Arizona

An orange kitten was stuck in a drain, meowing for help from an underground pipe for over a week. Then, Phoenix firefighters came to its rescue.

Crew members from Phoenix Fire Station 61 worked with the Arizona Humane Society to save the little animal, the Phoenix Fire Department said in a Facebook post.

“Both organizations worked safely to complete the rescue and the kitty is now safe and sound with the Arizona Humane Society,” the department said.

The rescue operation required “all hands on deck,” the Arizona Humane Society said in a Facebook post.

The kitten dodged rescuers for two days before eventually being caught in a humane trap. It was found underweight and with a stomach ailment, UPI reported.

The animal is being cared for at the Humane Society’s Second Chance Animal Trauma Hospital, the organization said in the Facebook post.

The 6-week-old kitten will need to be treated for at least two weeks before it can be adopted, 12 News reported. After that, it might be going home to a familiar face.

“Word on the street is that one of the firefighters is interested in adopting the little squirt,” the Humane Society said in its Facebook post.
