A horse stuck in ice was rescued with the help of multiple fire departments in Massachusetts, the Warwick Fire Department said.

In a Dec. 29 post, fire department officials said they received a call of a horse in water stuck in a sheet of ice.

The chilly horse was soon joined by two fire department rescuers in cold water suits, water rescue equipment and ropes, the post said.

Warwick fire department members waded into the water to break the ice and free the horse after backup from neighboring Orange and Royalston arrived.

Rescuers managed to free the horse and return it to its owner, the fire department said.

“Sounds like someone was horsing around,” a Facebook user joked.

“That must have been one cold horse,” another user commented. “Thank you for rescuing!”

Warwick is in north central Massachusetts near the New Hampshire border.
