The body of a missing 6-year-old was recovered after his father crashed their truck into a Washington river, the sheriff’s office said.

The child’s body was found on Tuesday, Jan. 11, in the Snoqualmie River in Fall City during a recovery effort of the vehicle, King County Sheriff’s Office Sgt. Tim Meyer told McClatchy News.

His mother’s body is still missing after search and rescue pulled the truck from the water, finding only the child’s body inside of it, Meyer said.

Meyer said the rescue team had no plans to search the river for the woman on Wednesday, Jan. 12. But periodic searches will continue.

On Jan. 9, the 35-year-old driver, of Carnation, lost control of the vehicle before 2 a.m. while making a left turn, according to an incident report from the Washington State Patrol.

The vehicle then rolled into the river, the report states.

He rescued himself and his 8-month-old child, but the woman and the other child did not make it out of the river, officials said.

Authorities arrested the man on suspicion of DUI, but he was never booked into jail, Washington State Patrol Trooper Rick Johnson told McClatchy News. Instead, he was taken to the hospital after the crash.

A toxicology report was done on the man to determine the potential charges he may face, officials said. He could face charges of a DUI and vehicular homicide, Johnson said.

The investigation is ongoing. Official charges will be determined by the King County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office.

Fall City is about 25 miles east of Seattle.
