Gunfire erupts as family mourns relative, leaving one dead, California police say
A California family gathering after the death of an elderly relative turned violent Tuesday, Feb. 22, police reported.
An argument broke out at the 8 p.m. gathering in Pittsburg in the Sacramento–San Joaquin River Delta, according to a Pittsburg Police Department news release.
Gunfire broke out, killing one man and injuring two others, police wrote. One of the injured is listed in critical condition, while another went to a hospital with a non-life-threatening gunshot wound.
Police who arrived at the home tried to revive the slain man, but he was pronounced dead. One man was arrested, but police did not identify him or specify the charges against him.
It is the city’s first homicide of 2022.
