Baby dies after mom goes into labor following head-on DUI crash, Pennsylvania cops say
A 21-year-old woman went into labor after a head-on crash, but her baby didn’t survive, according to Pennsylvania police.
The mother was riding as a passenger in a 2018 Hyundai SUV the night of March 27, along with a 54-year-old woman, a toddler, and a 26-year-old man behind the wheel, a Pennsylvania State Police report shows.
Their names were redacted from the report.
The Hyundai was driving east on U.S. Route 22, near West Hanover Township, when a westbound vehicle crashed head-on into them around 8:43 p.m., according to the report.
The other vehicle, a 2012 Kia sedan, was driven by an unidentified 27-year-old man.
Everyone was injured in the collision and taken to a hospital for treatment, according to police.
There, the pregnant woman delivered her baby, but the child died due to “undetermined trauma.”
Police continue to investigate and have classified the incident as a DUI crash, but haven’t said who they suspect was driving under the influence.
