Man vanishes after falling out of canoe and swimming to shore, Florida officials say
UPDATE: Davidson Anjab has been found.
-
A man is missing after the canoe he was in capsized and he swam to shore, authorities in Florida said.
Davidson Anjab and two of his friends went canoeing on April 17 in the Alexander Springs area of Altoona, according to a news release from the Lake County Sheriff’s Office.
The group’s canoe overturned in the water and while his two friends were able to get back in the boat, Anjab could not, the release said.
Anjab eventually swam to the shore and shouted out to his friends he would walk back and meet up with them, the sheriff’s office said.
But his friends told deputies they haven’t seen him since that afternoon.
The sheriff’s office dispatched a marine patrol unit, a helicopter, deputies on horseback and K-9 deputies to search for Anjab with the help of the U.S. Forest Service.
Altoona is about 49 miles northwest of Orlando.
