Powerball ticket sold in NC wins $2 million prize — just missing even bigger jackpot
A North Carolina lottery player scored a $2 million prize — but just missed out on getting even richer.
The winning Powerball ticket was sold at a Harris Teeter supermarket in Fayetteville. While at the Raeford Road location, the lucky person spent $3 to play the game, according to the N.C. Education Lottery.
The ticket was one number away from hitting the bigger jackpot but still matched enough numbers to score $2 million in the drawing held Monday, April 25, lottery officials said in a news release.
The winning numbers: 12-18-20-39-61, with Powerball number 10.
It turns out, the North Carolina lottery player beat 1-in-11.6 million odds to win big. Since no one won the jackpot, the winner’s prize was the biggest one in the nation the night of the drawing, according to Powerball officials.
The claim center at the N.C. Education Lottery’s headquarters opens at 9 a.m., and the prize hadn’t been collected as of early April 26, spokesperson Van Denton told McClatchy News in an email.
But the ticket holder still has time to cash in. Officials say winners have about six months to come forward and claim their prizes.
The estimated jackpot for the April 27 drawing has climbed to $454 million, lottery officials said.
