Unicycle rider dies after collision with recycling truck, California police say

A man riding a motorized unicycle died after colliding with a recycling truck in San Francisco early Wednesday, June 1, California police told news outlets.

The unicycle rider died at the scene of the 4 a.m. crash at Octavia Boulevard and Oak Street in the Hayes Valley neighborhood, police told KTVU.

Recology, a company that handles recycling for the city, told KNTV the unicyclist hit the rear of the truck as it headed north on Octavia Boulevard.

“Safety is Recology’s paramount priority, and we are deeply saddened by the loss of life in this tragic accident,” the company told SFGate in a statement.

The driver stayed at the scene, police told KTVU.
