Wife tries to save drowning husband, but he couldn’t reach life jacket, TN officials say
A man’s body was recovered from a lake in Tennessee after he fell off a boat on a trip with his wife, officials said.
The Rockvale couple were near the Stewart Creek Boat Ramp on Sunday, June 19, when the man stumbled over the side of the boat, according to a news release from the Rutherford County Sheriff’s Office.
The man’s wife tossed him a life jacket in an attempt to save him, but her husband couldn’t grab it and didn’t resurface, according to the release.
Emergency response teams were notified and began searching for the man. About two hours after the sheriff’s office announced the search, it reported that officials recovered a body.
“Firefighters and the dive team had two different hits with the sonar and a dive team was sent in to check it out,” Sgt. Nick Coble said in the release. “The dive teams recovered the body.”
Authorities are waiting until family members are notified before they release the man’s name, the release said.
Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency, Rutherford County Emergency Medical Services, Rutherford County Emergency Management Agency and Nashville’s Office of Emergency Management also assisted in the search, the sheriff’s office said.
Stewart Creek is about 28 miles southeast of Nashville.
