These recalled beds sold by Walmart and Amazon can crush you. Here’s what to know
The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission recalled four models of beds sold by major retailers after receiving nearly 150 reports of them breaking, falling and causing injuries.
Full and queen-size Murphy wall beds sold under brand names Ivy Bronx, Orren Ellis, Stellar Home Furniture and Wade Logan are part of the Sept. 8 recall, the commission says. They were sold online by Amazon, Walmart, Wayfair, AllModern, Cymax and Overstock from February 2014 through May 2022.
The CPSC said the products, which are installed into a wall and can fold up, pose “serious impact and crush hazards” because they can break or detach from the wall. Officials received 146 reports of the beds falling or breaking, and 62 of those involved broken bones, concussions, bruising, lacerations and other injuries.
All consumers should “immediately stop using” the Murphy beds and contact Cyme Tech, the beds’ Canadian manufacturer, for free inspection and repair. The company is contacting known purchasers, according to the commission’s report, but consumers can also check whether their bed is included in the recall with their online receipt or by contacting the firm.
