A 23-month-old girl was killed on Monday, Sept. 19, in a crash involving a school bus, Minnesota cops say.

The crash happened around 8:30 a.m. in Arden Hills, about 10 miles northeast of Minneapolis.

The Ramsey County Sheriff’s Office says a family of four was in a black pickup truck that was traveling west on Highway 96. The pickup truck and school bus crashed into each other when the driver of the truck turned onto Highway 10.

A school resource officer heard the collision, and deputies found the school bus had crashed into the passenger side of the truck, the sheriff’s office said.

A 23-month-old girl was found not breathing, and her 15-year-old brother had serious injuries to his legs. CPR was performed on the girl, and she died at a local hospital, according to the sheriff’s office.

The 15-year-old is being treated at the same hospital for serious injuries, the sheriff said. The parents did not have any noticeable injuries.

It’s unclear who was at fault in the crash. The driver of the school bus, who was the only person on board, was taken to the hospital as a precaution, according to the sheriff.

Names of the victims have not been publicly disclosed.

The sheriff’s office called it a “sad morning” for the community.
